APEC Chile 2019 was launched with representatives from the 21 economies

Santiago, December 12, 2018. APEC Chile 2019 will get underway with a ceremony at La Moneda Palace, presided over by HE Sebastián Piñera Echenique, President of the Republic of Chile. At the event, there was speeches by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Roberto Ampuero, and the SOM Chair (Chair of the Senior Officials), Mathias Francke, while President Sebastián Piñera will make the closing address.

The first official meetings of APEC Chile 2019 will take place on December 12 and 13 in the Former National Congress Building in Santiago. On Wednesday 12, the APEC Symposium will take place. It will be inaugurated by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Roberto Ampuero, and attended by the Senior Representatives (SOM) from the 21 economies that make up APEC, along with the delegates and over 100 Chilean and international guests.

The priorities for the year that Chile is hosting the forum will be announced at the APEC symposium. The four priorities for APEC Chile 2019 are: Digital Society; Integration 4.0; Women, SMEs and Inclusive Growth; and Sustainable Growth.

In the evening, guests invited by Mathias Francke, SOM Chair (Chair of the Senior Officials) will attend a reception at La Moneda Palace Cultural Center.

The following day, December 13, the Senior Officials’ Retreat will begin in the “Rare Books Library” at the Former National Congress Building. During the day, the SOMs (Senior Officials) will review an agenda with the main outcomes from APEC Papua New Guinea 2018 and organize the work for the coming year. They will also discuss prior to approving the priorities that have been set by Chile and the main deliverables it expects to achieve in 2019.
