In Papua New Guinea: Young Chileans stand out in APEC APP Challenge competition
The APEC Senior Official for Chile, Mathias Francke, praised the efforts of the young people from La Serena, Cristian Ramírez and Mikel Carozzi.
Port Moresby, May 24, 2018- The APEC APP Challenge took place this Thursday during the Second APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting in Papua New Guinea.
The initiative invited young people from the 21 APEC economies to develop a smartphone
application in less than 24 hours. The goal was to showcase the products made by artisans from Papua New Guinea for potential buyers in international markets.
The teams that took part in the challenge included Cristian Ramírez and Mikel Carozzi, two young people from La Serena who stood out because of their enthusiasm and creativity. Their efforts were recognized by the APEC Senior Official for Chile, Mathias Francke, who also served on the jury for the competition. Francke said that activities like this one promote cultural exchange among young people from APEC economies and demonstrate the opportunities that technology provides for inclusive growth.
“In line with the theme of APEC 2018, the goal of the competition was to develop a proposal that would embody the opportunities that technology provides for inclusive growth. In this sense, we are very pleased with the results of this initiative because the applications developed took up the challenges posed by access to networks, technology and information for isolated communities, and particularly the role of women,” explained Mathias Franke, Director for Multilateral Economic Affairs of Direcon and the APEC Senior Official for Chile.
