Papua New Guinea: Chile takes over the chairmanship of APEC for 2019
On November 18, Chile became the chair for the Forum upon the conclusion of Economic Leaders' Week in Papua New Guinea
For six days, the Chilean delegation led by President Sebastián Piñera, Foreign Affairs Minister Roberto Ampuero, Vice Minister of Trade Rodrigo Yáñez and the SOM Chair for APEC 2019, Mathias Francke, shared with the other APEC economies the main topics to be discussed during the year that Chile will host APEC. They also presented the country's logo, slogan, priorities and a promotional video.
Under the slogan "Connecting people, building the future", APEC 2019 will focus on promoting the digital society, integration 4.0, women, SMEs and indigenous peoples, and comprehensive, inclusive and sustainable growth.
The Chilean delegation also held bilateral meetings with the People’s Republic of China, Japan and Australia, as well as meetings with APEC's business representatives. The Chilean chapter of the APEC Business Advisory Council, led by Richard von Appen, the Chairman of Ultramar, Alfonso Swett, president of the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC), and Rosario Navarro, Executive Committee Member of the Federation of Chilean Industry (SOFOFA), also took over the leadership of the Council for the year that Chile will host APEC.
The event's organizers have already launched the APEC Chile 2019 website and social networks, where the latest news and updates will be posted. It also contains all the necessary details for the registration and accreditation of delegates and members of the media attending the meeting in Chile, which will bring together the world's main leaders in 2019.
