What does Chilean tourism gain as the host country for APEC?
Assuming the presidency of APEC entails many responsibilities for the host economy, but it also brings benefits in various areas. One of the sectors which has most to gain is tourism.
In 2018 Chile won for the third time in a row the World Travel Awards prize as the best country for adventure tourism in the world, managing to beat countries such as the United States, New Zealand, Canada and Australia. This is just one example where the potential of our country as a tourist destination is evident.
Chile will be the host country for APEC 2019. This means that eyes from all over the world will be on our country, providing us with a unique opportunity to show what we have to offer including our cultural, social and geographical riches.
Throughout the year, Chile will welcome authorities from other economies and will be visited by some of the world’s most important political and business leaders. Consequently, the most prestigious communication media will be focusing on our country.
Precisely to take advantage of this visibility and to boost tourism, APEC meetings will take place in different cities, such as Antofagasta, La Serena, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Concepción and Puerto Varas, benefiting in this way many of Chile’s different regions.
More than 200 meetings will take place with approximately 15,000 guests, making APEC a showcase to attract investors linked to tourism and allowing them to generate business and promote the image of Chile.
